Algeria and Namibia reaffirmed their determination to deepen energy cooperation.

IATF 2025: Algeria and Namibia Forge Energy Partnership

Algiers and Windhoek take a decisive step toward closer cooperation in hydrocarbons and renewable energy, setting the stage for joint projects across Africa.

At the fourth edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), Algeria and Namibia reaffirmed their determination to deepen energy cooperation. A high-level meeting in Algiers brought together Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, and Namibia’s Vice-President, Lucia Witbo, alongside senior officials and energy executives.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Discussions centered on reinforcing collaboration in hydrocarbons and renewable energy. Both sides pledged to move beyond declarations of intent by launching concrete initiatives across the energy value chain. This commitment, officials stressed, is part of a broader vision to boost African economic integration and ensure sustainable growth across the continent.

Broadening the Scope of Cooperation

The talks outlined several new areas of collaboration. These include electricity generation, transmission and distribution, the expansion and maintenance of power networks, and the development of solar photovoltaic projects. The two countries also agreed to exchange regulatory, managerial, and academic expertise while conducting joint studies in the oil and gas industries.

Algeria Showcases its Expertise

Minister Arkab highlighted Algeria’s ambition to play a leading role in South-South partnerships. He underlined President Tebboune’s vision to expand the reach of state-owned companies Sonatrach and Sonelgaz across Africa, while sharing Algeria’s decades of experience in hydrocarbon exploration, refining, gas transport, and liquefied natural gas. Training programs and knowledge-transfer initiatives, he noted, would form a key pillar of Algeria’s support to Namibia.

Namibia Looks to Algeria as a Model

For her part, Vice-President Witbo praised Algeria’s achievements in the energy sector, describing its approach as a model for resource management. She expressed Namibia’s readiness to draw inspiration from Algeria’s experience to accelerate the development of its own oil and gas industry, while intensifying cooperation with Algerian firms, particularly Sonatrach.

With this agreement, Algeria and Namibia are laying the groundwork for a long-term strategic partnership. Their shared ambition: to transform natural resources into engines of sustainable growth and to position Africa as a stronger player on the global energy map.
